How to Make a Reading Jar!
Have you ever read a new book and found it amazing? You shared it with anyone that would pause to listen, you couldn’t get over the characters, and the book itself sits on your bookshelf radiating its light. It’s a book you will never forget. But what about the ones you do forget? What about that great book you read last summer, you loved it—until you found another book to love. Now you can’t even remember its name…
Some people like to keep reading journals to log what books they read and how much they liked them. Today we’re going to be making a reading jar. It requires less effort and work and is just as effective! Let’s get to it!
First you’ll need to gather your supplies.
A mason jar with a lid – or any other jar that can hold items.
A piece of paper
A pair of scissors
A pencil and pen
Now remove the lid from the jar and write ‘reading jar’ (or any other awesome name you can come up with) on top so you won’t forget what’s inside!
Next, take your piece of paper and cut it up into strips. They can be big, small, wide, or skinny, entirely up to you!
Your last step is also a challenge! Every time you read a book that you liked, simply write its title and author on a slip of paper and put it into the jar. Also consider adding the date you finished it, what you liked about the book, and make even a quote from it! Place the lid back on the jar and you’re finished!
You now have a read-it jar! This is a fun and cool way to keep track of all those books you read. With summer coming up it can be a busy time for readers so be sure to make this to be prepared! Then, when your reading pile runs dry you simply reach your hand into the jar and draw out the notes for a book you know you’ll enjoy. Also consider sharing this idea with a friend and at the end of summer doing a jar swap to have a whole new batch of books to read!
