Introducing our very first writer…Are you ready to learn more? I’ll introduce our guest and then let them tell you about themselves!
(Inertia) Hello! Welcome to the Feather Treasury, we’re so glad you’re here! Can you tell us your name and how long you’ve been writing for?
(Guest) Hi, thank you for having me, my name is Alayna Fugazi, and I’ve been writing seriously for five years.
(Inertia) What genre(s) do you normally write in?
(Alayna) I write epic fantasy, gothic fantasy (think Beauty and the Beast), and post apocalyptic sci fi.
(Inertia) Can you tell us how or why you started writing? What inspired you and started your journey?
(Alayna) I had always loved telling stories, but the first time I felt that I could write something worth publishing was around fourth grade. My cousins and I used to play a game where we would pretend we couldn’t be touched by sunlight, and we, the moon people, had to battle the sun people. (The game was best enjoyed at sunset, so it would look like we were winning). While the story that was inspired by the game is currently on the back burner, it was the idea that helped me decide I wanted to take my writing seriously.
(Inertia) Could you share with us about a favorite character of yours from your own writing? What do you hope readers will take away from this character?
(Alayna) My favorite character is Alastair, from my published short story The Library of the Lost. He’s the Librarian’s assistant, and his weakness is his arrogance, though he believes that him being blind is his weakness. I hope readers will look at Alastair and learn that both believing in yourself and knowing when to ask for help are equally important.
(Inertia) What is something you wish someone would have told you before you started writing? A piece of advice to share with other young writers?
(Alayna) It’s okay that your first drafts are a hot mess express. Don’t give up on your abilities or your characters because you couldn’t get it right the first rime around.
(Inertia) Alayna, could you share with us an author that has inspired you? Someone who you look up to?
(Alayna) I really look up to Victoria McCombs. She started out with traditional publishing but switched to indie publishing within the past year or two. She writes Christian fantasy in all the subgenres a Christian might usually stay away from, an example being fae romantasy. Her writing has really taught me that I can write a gritty or edgy story that still glorifies God.
(Inertia) Do you have any published works you would like to share about?
(Alayna) My short story, The Library of the Lost can be found on Amazon in Uncharted, an all teen anthology published by Owl Hollow Press. You have to be very specific when searching it up, usually “storycon teen anthology uncharted” works best.
