Stories for the Summer and Why You Should Dive Into an Anthology
If you read the word ‘anthology’ and thought “Inertia, I don’t want to learn about bugs” then you’re in the right place! Today I’m going to explain about what exactly an anthology is, where you can find them, and a very exciting new one that is coming out.
First let's break down this strange word anthology.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines anthology to mean- a collection of selected literary pieces or passages or works of art or music. In this case it means: a collection of short stories found in one place.
Anthologies are often composed by multiple authors each with their own unique short story focusing on one specific theme. Think of it this way: if all your favorite authors got together and were given the same exact writing prompt they would each come up with their own story but all would contain that writing prompt. Now if that prompt was—the theme of hope, then each story could be classified as a story based on hope.
Okay, let’s put all that together. Anthologies from multiple authors are books that contain unique short stories focused on a central theme.
Now that we know what an anthology is, where do you find them? Are they floating around your local library somewhere? Does your grandmother keep one in her library? Do you have one under your bed?
